CF Update: July 3 |
Team Crucible Gravity Tester
I perform many roles here at Crucible Fitness, but I haven’t fulfilled this job title for quite some time. My number came up at mile 26 on the IMCDA course, when I washed out my front wheel at 40mph in a corner. I then flatted at mile 40. I spent the rest of the bike deciding what to do with my day. Around mile 85 I decided I had no business running in my condition, especially given my bigger fish of Kona in October. So I ran two miles with Jon off the bike and hit the med tent. First time I’ve quit anything, but as I gain perspective I now realize I am very, very lucky to have not been more seriously injured. As it is, I have a lot of road rash on my right side, but nothing broken, shattered, or even bruised. I also don’t have to manage any post-IM recovery, as I essentially had a good, if very eventful, training day on Sunday. The best news is the bike emerged relatively unscathed, with no scratches on the paint. I apparently dove under the bike, sacrificing some skin to save my Ride.
Jon Pedder: 3rd AG, 19th OA and Kona Bound!
Many of you have been following Jon’s training logs and have been inspired by his transformation from Fat Bastard to Tri-Freak. The transformation was completed at IMCDA this weekend. For all of the details, please read Jon’s race report here: http://www.cruciblefitness.com/TeamCrucible/thecoaches/jon/results/cda03/

Jon and I have trained together exclusively for over three years. We have spent more time staring at each others’ backsides than two straight men have any business admitting J. In that time we have experimented with every training method and made every training mistake imaginable. Jon’s performance on race day was a validation of everything we have worked so hard for. I got my slot last year at Wisconsin, so it is only fitting that we will be in the Big Show together this October. The condo is booked and we are planning our training for the next few months. Stay tuned.
Racing in the Heat
It was a hot, hot, hot day out there.
Racing in the heat requires some unique skills and mental strength. In
short, the conditions reward athletes who are flexible and adapt
themselves to the real time situations. I’m currently writing an article
to help you through the summer races. Stay tuned.
IMCDA Race Reports
I coached over 25 athletes to the race and
the reports are coming in. If you want to learn and be inspired, check

IMMoo
Training Camp
There are only 2 slots remaining for my
training camp on the IM Wisconsin course, July 18-20. The cost of the
camp is only $150. I expect to close the camp out this weekend. Complete

All for now, much more coming later as the coaches debrief their races and share thoughts and ideas. Have a great holiday weekend!
