Rich has recently re-written his already
successful Ironman training plans, drawing on the experience of
another season of Ironman training, racing, and coaching.
The major change has been a decreased
emphasis on cycling volume and increased focus on quality cycling, to
ensure you see the greatest performance return on every training hour
invested. Many of Rich's power-training athletes have improved their
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) by 10-20% with only 4-5hrs/wk on the
trainer through the winter. Lifting your FTP lifts your power/speed at
ALL intensities. When you raise your speed at tempo pace to 23mph, it
also becomes much easier to ride 20mph. Rich has applied these lessons to both
heart rate and power-based training plans.
